BC’s Health Minister Adrian Dix and provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry praised the public for helping “bend the curve” during their daily COVID-19 update Friday.

But they also stressed the importance of staying the course.

“We are on the right track, but we must hold that line,” said Henry. “Together we have made good decisions and we’ve made them at the right time, and people in BC have done the work that we need to do.”

Dix and Henry say modelling released today shows the resiliency and 100 per cent commitment of everyone in BC is having a positive impact. What happens next is directly tied to the public’s continued efforts.

“It is essential that everybody in BC continue to practice what we have been doing, our physical distancing, for the near future. We have had success in BC by being diligent and being thoughtful, and working together and supporting each other to get through this, and we need to continue that,” said Henry.

“We are not going back right now to what we had in December. It’s not going to be the same. Our new normal, for the coming months, and it may be some time, is going to be modifications of what we’re seeing right now.”

There were 43 new cases of COVID-19 in BC announced Friday, raising the total to 1,618 confirmed cases. No new outbreaks were reported in the last day.
